Abdul Idi, USPTA, Interim Director of Racquet Sports
Abdul began teaching at River Strand in June 2011. Prior to River Strand Abdul was a Tennis Pro at Read-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis, MN '98-'11. Prior to Read-Sweatt Abdul was the Head Pro at the Mankato Indoor Tennis Center, MN '96-'98.
Abdul was former Junior champion at the '85 National sports festival in Ilorin and won ITF juniors both singles & doubles in Lagos, Nigeria '87. Abdul also competed at the '86 North African junior circuit in Casablanca, Morrocco. Competed at the West African ITF juniors in Abidjan, Ivory Coast '87. Training tour of Sotchi, Russia '87. Competed at the '10 USTA 5.0 Nationals, Indian Wells, CA. Played #2 singles & #1 doubles at Livingstone College, NC on a full tennis scholarship. Abdul obtained an MS in Community Health from Minnesota State Uni- Mankato. Abdul is married to Jennifer and has a 10 year old son, Jaden.
Scott Pothul, Assistant Tennis Professional
Scott Pothul joined the River Strand staff in January 2011. He grew up and played junior tennis in Western Massachusetts where he held a ranking as high as 4th in New England in the 16 and under division in 1986. At that time he was coached by a top 100 world ranked player. He played NCAA Div. 1 college tennis at Fairfield University in Southern Connecticut. He was a Managing Partner of Enfield Tennis Club in Connecticut and a member of the Nike Tennis Staff at Amherst College in Massachusetts.
Ben Zink, USPTA, Assistant Tennis Professional
Ben Zink is originally from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where he grew up playing high level junior tennis. His playing career includes playing at North Carolina State University, which was ranked #19 in the nation. During his time at NC State, Ben played singles and doubles and was ranked as high as #7 nationally in NCAA Division I in doubles. Following school, Ben competed on the ATP Futures Tour, playing and traveling internationally for over a year to places like Turkey, Portugal, Croatia and Mexico. Ben has also won two USTA National Doubles titles.Since playing, Ben has coached players to Division I tennis scholarships as well as ITF and USTA National Championships. His coaching career also includes experience at the collegiate level, coaching the men’s team at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
